Overall, we are not trying to see a lot of movies like Tu Ya Main in Bollywood. It commits to the survival thriller genre with surprising honesty. Bejoy blends the thrills of social oddity and creature-featuring into an occasionally messy, but largely entertaining ride. Even when it borders on absurdity, the film remains effective enough to keep you engaged. It can make you cringe, laugh nervously, and even gasp… and that’s exactly the point.

Watch Tu Ya Main for its freshness. It may test your patience before it can test your nerves, but it dares to blend romance and creature terror into one experience, and it almost works. However, the film falters a bit in its closing frames. After investing heavily in tension and emotional build-up over a long period of time, Tu Ya Main opts for an ending that feels rushed, leaving some questions unanswered. But all said and done, it’s Bejoy’s willingness to take risks that sets the film apart.

Adapted from the 2018 Thai film ‘The Pool’, this version meets many criteria in terms of atmosphere and tension. Yet it’s puzzling that the script doesn’t perfectly connect the emotional drama and survival arc. The extended build-up seems to promise a payoff that never materializes. The crocodile episode, while entertaining, feels disjointed rather than organically earned. It almost plays like a separate movie inserted into an already established relationship drama. The film keeps you engaged as it plays out, but if you value narrative cohesion, you may find yourself wishing the two parts had merged into a more unified whole.

He likes to make his characters suffer in both sorrow and sadness. We all saw how the lives of those debauched friends in Satan got trapped in the web of despair and chaos. The ones he created for David were also inspired by the unexpected. And Taish was basically friendships and relationships on steroids where anything could happen. Here his two central characters fight over nothing symbolically, but something that can shake up your life. Either run away or be eaten alive. Will you or I be able to last long at the box office? It’s hard to say given the vague interest of the audience. But there are moments of wonder and shock, both before and after the appearance of a giant beast. This is the longest time we have seen the creature on the big screen in a Hindi film. And the actors are continuously failing to befriend it. Maybe next time!
